ASEAN Bintulu Fertilizer Sdn Bhd operates ammonia and urea plants in Bintulu, Sarawak under the petrochemicals industry in Malaysia.
The Bintulu Complex was commissioned in September 1985. It has a capacity of 400,000 ton per annum for ammonia and 600,000 ton per annum urea. Ammonia is used to manufacture fertilizers and as an anticorrosion agent in oil refineries. It is used in the rubber, chemical and petrochemical industries. Urea is used as a fertilizer and as a raw material to manufacture protein in animal fodder and important chemical compounds such as urea formaldehyde.
